Over the last few weeks, I've been enjoying various tennis ball exercises to help work through areas of tension. It's a great way to massage yourself and works especially well on the soles of your feet. I just roll the tennis ball around under one foot at a time, applying as much pressure as feels comfortable.
A nice little trick to see how well this works is to do a forward fold before the tennis ball exercise. Then, massage both feet with a tennis ball for around 5 - 10 minutes on each foot and then do a forward fold again. If done for long enough and with the right amount of pressure, you will notice yourself go much further in your forward fold.
The tennis ball massage on your feet works by loosening up fascia, allowing you to fold deeper. It works especially well on those who have tight hamstrings.
